Mysterious Realms.
An Exhibition by Teresa Rubio held at Galleri International, Laesoe Denmark July/ August 2014.

It is a great pleasure to welcome the Mexican Artist Teresa Rubio to Galleri International on the island of Laesoe Denmark. Teresa first visited the island during the summer of 2013 when she was able to encounter the isolated beaches, vast skies, spectacular sunsets, lush vegetation, tranquillity and ever changing seascapes at first hand. The unique beauty she has found here has inspired her to produce the body of work presented in this exhibition.

Teresa has created her own authentic and unique response to Laesoe. In my view her use of colour is Mexican but her Art is Universal. The paintings are not Representational but rather an Abstract response to her contemplative encounter with outer phenomena explored with vision and imagination, therefore they capture something of the 'spirit of place' from several perspectives resulting in a series of astonishingly beautiful images in acrylic and watercolour paint.

With a masterly use of paint, sensitive composition, tone, exquisite use of colour and jewel-like forms Teresa's pictures encourage the viewer to see the apparently hidden world of creative tension and aesthetic values inherent in Nature. The images are often a jewel-like treasure trove of challenging, imaginative, mysterious realms. All art is essentially abstract and Teresa's work is abstract painting at its best, in my view, for here the essence of things observed and intuited are presented in unfamiliar ways and what one thought of as familiar is suddenly seen as a refreshingly new and exciting discovery.

These are paintings based on the sensitive observation and serious reflection of what appears to lay beneath the surface of superficial reality. Teresa approaches natural phenomena with open minded delight in the ever changing interplay of matter and energy, responding to it with heart, mind, eyes and hands before sharing her personal vision in paint. It is an essentially spiritual approach to artistic endeavour. With spontaneity and discipline her art is painstakingly produced with a painterly skill and accomplishment that is seemingly effortless. Teresa is an artist at the height of her powers.

We live in an age where style is increasingly valued above substance and the deeper realities are often left unexplored and neglected, Modern Art often mirrors this both unconsciously and deliberately. Teresa's art attempts to the plumb the depths and often mirrors contemporary Scientific thinking especially the ideas of multi dimensional reality.

Plato said -

'The unexamined life is not worth living'

Teresa Rubio's Art affirms her 'examined ' life as an artist who is genuinely contemplating the deeper realities of Being and Becoming and expressing the results of her essentially mystical quest most successfully in her paintings.

I hope many viewers will appreciate Teresa's point of vision and imaginative charm and be inspired to explore new perspectives.
